Technical Bulletin 20070723-01
Multiple Reboots Required in order to access an Arrowspan device via an Ethernet connected laptop or PC.
Situation: A number of devices are being accessed with a laptop or PC via the Ethernet port. The Ethernet connection to the first device worked fine, but connections to subsequent devices required a number of reboots before one is able to connect. It is assumed that the Arrowspan devices are using their default IP addresses.
Explanation: The laptop or PC will record the MAC and IP address of the device’s Ethernet port in its ARP (address resolution protocol) table. After the Ethernet connection is disconnected from the first device, its ARP table still retains the entry relating the MAC address of the first device to it default IP address. When the laptop or PC is connected to a different device, the IP address of this device is the same as the first device. However, the MAC address will different thus preventing frames destined for the second device from arriving.
Solution: It is possible to flush the ARP table of a Microsoft Window system by issuing the following command, arp –d.
